What Are Prince William and Kate Middleton Naming the Royal Baby?

Royal baby number three is almost here! Kate Middleton was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital in London in the early stages of labor on Monday morning. And while she and Prince William chose not to find out whether they’re having a boy or a girl during the pregnancy, that hasn’t stopped the predictions — and U.K. bookmakers are betting on a little prince.

According to Ladbrokes, the odds that Kate will give birth to a boy are at 10/11, while a girl is at evens. This is a switch from prior odds, which had a girl more likely.

As for possible names, Alice and Mary are the top choices among bookmakers who’ve provided the odds to match the public interest in the royal baby’s arrival. Alice is at 5-1, according to Ladbrokes, and Mary is at 11-2, according to William Hill. If the baby is a boy, Albert and Arthur are tied as the most popular names for a boy – at 5-1 and 9-1, respectively, according to Ladbrokes.

If Will and Kate do have a girl and choose Alice, it would have special meaning for the royal family, as it is the name of Prince Philip‘s mother — William’s great-grandmother. The name Philip is also a contender at 16-1. And it would be following tradition, as William’s full name is William Arthur Philip Louis.

Royal baby fever has been in full swing since temporary parking restrictions were put in place outside St. Mary’s hospital earlier this month. The notices are up in South Wharf Road, suspending parking from April 9 to April 30 for an “event.”

Prince William may have let slip whether he and Kate are expecting a baby boy.

After celebrating his soccer team’s championship win on April 11, the royal dad got caught up in all the excitement. After Aston Villa player Jack Grealish’s winning goal against rivals Cardiff City, William told fans: “I’m going to insist the baby is called Jack,” reports the Mirror. After a pause, William then added, “…or Jackie.”
